Rava Kichadi

 


     Rava Kichadi

Ingredients:

  • Rava – 100 grams (1Cup)
  • Ghee - 3 tablespoons 
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal 
  • ½ cup chopped onions🧅
  • 2 green chilies – chopped 
  • ½ teaspoon finely chopped ginger🫚
  • Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
  •  ½ cup finely chopped carrots 🥕 
  •  ½ cup beans 🫛 
  •  ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 cups of water
  • salt as required

 Preparation:

Take a pan and add one cup of fine rava to it.  The heat must be low while roasting the rava.

 Roast the rava by stirring it quite often. 

 Once the rava changes its colour, switch off the stove.

 Bring the roasted rava to a plate. Keep it aside.

 In the same pan, add four teaspoons of  ghee with two two teaspoons of oil. 

Let the ghee along with the oil, be heated.

Now add, one teaspoon of mustard seeds and let it splutter.

When the mustard seeds begin to splutter, add one teaspoon of urad dal. Then, fry the lentils until golden brown. 

 Then, add half a cup of chopped onions. Then sauté the onions until it turns translucent.

Now, add two chopped green chilies, half a teaspoon of finely chopped ginger and two sprigs of curry leaves. Mix it well.

Next, add half a cup of finely chopped carrots, half a cup of beans and mix the vegetables along with the other ingredients.

 Then, add half  a teaspoon of turmeric powder. Mix it again and sauté for another couple of minutes on low heat.

Then, pour two cups of water and add the required salt as needed.

Increase the heat until let the water comes to a boil. Now, reduce the heat and add the roasted rava slowly. Mix it well, so that lumps are not formed.

Cover the pan with a lid and keep it on low heat for about two to three minutes.

 Now, serve the piping hot delicious rava kichadi along with the coconut chutney.
