Snake gourd with Split Chickpea Lentils
Snake gourd and Split Chickpea Lentils Kootu
Ingredients:
Snake gourd - 400 grams (Cut into small cubes)
Split Chickpea Lentils - 3 Tablespoons
Coconut Oil - 2 Teaspoons
Green Chillies - 2 (Slit)
Grated Coconut - 2 Teaspoons
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
Urad Dhal - 1 Teaspoon
Onion - 1 (Chopped)
Curry Leaves - 1 Sprig
Salt - As Required
Preparation:
1. First, soak the split chickpea lentils for half an hour.
2. Then, cut the snake gourd into small cubes.
3. Once, the split chickpea lentils are soaked, wash it and add them in a pressure cooker along with the chopped snake gourd pieces. Add 3/4 cup of water and pressure cook them with four to five whistles.
4. Once done, remove the contents from the pressure cooker. Drain it, if there is excess water and keep it aside.
5. Now, take a kadai, add two teaspoons of coconut oil. Add the mustard and wait until it splutters. Then, add the urad dhal, split green chillies, chopped onions along with the curry leaves and sauté them well.
6. Then, add the boiled snake gourd and the split chickpea lentils into the kadai and mix them well adding the turmeric powder and the required salt. Sauté them well for another four to five minutes.
7. Finally, add two teaspoons of grated coconut and keep it in the stove for a minute or two.
The tasty 'snake gourd chickpea lentils kootu' is now ready to serve, which is an ideal side dish for puli kulambu.
